Breakout Descriptions

A brief description in alphabetical order of the breakouts offered at GGWA camp.

Calligraphy

Campers will learn the art of the design and execution of lettering.

Character Design

Create and draw characters from your imagination or real life. Breakout includes the study of human form, proportion, expression, color, movement and storytelling.

Choir

Singing in a group. This is often a performance breakout that joins with other instrument breakouts to bring a sound of praise on the Night of Worship.

Choreography

Campers will work together with a leader to create a dance from ‘scratch’, practicing and then performing the original piece on the Night of Worship.

Costuming

Assembling, organizing and planning costumes for campers for the Night of Worship. Some simple sewing or crafting may be included.

Creative Writing

Participants will hone their writing skills using various techniques to create original pieces that will be on display at the Night of Worship.

Crochet

Crochet 1

Campers will learn the basics and beyond in this breakout as they explore the art of crocheting with yarn.

Crochet 2

This breakout builds on Crochet 1, and is for all who are proficient in chain and single crochet.

Culinary Arts

This breakout explores the art of cooking and baking. Campers will create yummy treats that will be for sale at our Night of Worship. All proceeds from this sale go to supporting individuals or ministries outside of GGWA, so the campers can see how their artistic efforts can be a blessing to others.

Digital Praise

Explore graphic design utilizing Canva, Adobe Express, and others – craft inspiring vibrant slides that will be utilized during camp and the Night of Worship. Perfect for both beginners and seasoned creators.

Drama

Working with a script, campers will explore the art of acting. A dramatic sketch will be rehearsed through the week and performed on the Night of Worship.

Drama/Dance

This breakout combines a theatrical interpretation of a song with some dance elements to convey a poignant message. The piece will be performed on the Night of Worship.

Drumming

Beginning Drumming/Rhythm

No experience is needed for this breakout. Campers are introduced to the basics of drumming with both hands and sticks on a variety of instruments. Focus is on hearing and keeping time as well as performing rhythmic patterns.

Drumming 2

Some experience with drumming is required. Individuals will learn more intricate drumming techniques and patterns. Possible performance component.

Go! Dance

A high-energy choreographed dance practiced throughout the week & performed on the Night of Worship.

Guitar

Beginning Guitar

Introduction to the instrument, basic chords and simple strumming patterns. Designed for individuals with little to no experience.

Guitar 1

Builds on Beginning Guitar knowledge. Participants should already have a basic knowledge of chords and strings. Possible performance component.

Guitar 2

Designed for individuals with some picking and performance experience, building on the knowledge from Guitar 1 and the benefit of some guitar lessons. Possible performance component.

Guitar 3

For individuals who are proficient on the instrument with 2 or more years of experience including lessons, picking and performance. Possible performance component.

Interpretive/Prophetic Dance

Dance that communicates emotions, conditions, situations into movement and dramatic expression. May include some elements of listening for direction from the Lord and choreography. There may be a performance element with this breakout.

Jewelry Making

Campers will learn several different jewelry-making techniques throughout the week and create jewelry to keep or give away. No experience required.

Keyboard

Beginning Keyboard

Introduction to the instrument, basic chords and notes. Designed for individuals with little to no experience.

Keyboard 1

Individuals should know the names of the keys and basic chords. Some lessons/playing experience is desired. Campers will be reading music. Possible performance component.

Keyboard 2

Campers should be able to read music and have 2 years of lessons/experience on piano or keyboard. Campers will be building on their experience, playing worship music. Possible performance component.

LEGO Animation

Movie-making through the art of stop-motion animation using LEGOs. Designed for the beginner through experienced animators, campers work in pairs to re-create Bible stories. Breakout includes the art of voice-over and sound effects.

Lyrical Dance

A choreographed dance combining styles of ballet technique with the freedom and musicality of jazz and contemporary. Practiced through the week and performed on the Night of Worship.

Mixed Media Art

This breakout explores the combination of two or more artistic mediums into one piece of art. The creative possibilities are endless with the variety of materials and techniques used.

Musical Theater

Campers combine singing with dancing for this high-energy breakout. Think: Broadway! The final product will be featured on the Night of Worship.

Needlework

This breakout will focus on more intricate needle-arts such as embroidery and cross-stitch.

Poetry

This breakout focuses on the art of poetry, introducing various types, and helping campers create as well as refine their writing.

Prophetic Art

Puppetry

This breakout explores the theatrical through the manipulation of puppets. The puppeteers will perform on the Night of Worship.

Sculpture

Using a variety of materials to make three-dimensional art projects.

Set/Props

Sewing

This breakout explores both hand- and machine-stitching, usually working on a project that will be completed by the end of the week. (If you are interested in more detailed hand-stitching, see Needlework)

Sign Language (ASL)

Songwriting

For this breakout, campers must be proficient on an instrument. They will learn how to write, edit and refine a piece of original music. Possible performance component.

Rhythmic Movement

This breakout is designed to give campers the opportunity to move using different rhythmic games and props. Some rhythm skills will be taught through play.

Ukulele

Beginning Ukulele

Introduction to the instrument, basic chords and simple strumming patterns. Designed for individuals with little to no experience.

Ukulele 1

Builds on Beginning Ukulele knowledge. Participants should already have a basic knowledge of chords and strings. Possible performance component.

Ukulele 2

Designed for individuals with Ukulele 1 knowledge, picking and 2 or more years of experience with the instrument. Possible performance component.

Video (Movie-Making)

This collaborative, fast-paced experience gives campers the opportunity to delve into all the basics of a short film: brainstorming, writing, acting, storytelling, and filming techniques to convey powerful messages.

Video Editing

Turn raw video footage into engaging stories! Learn the ins and outs of cutting, arranging, and enhancing clips. perfect for budding editors and anyone interested in behind-the-scenes artistry that brings videos to life.

Warrior Worship

This boys-only breakout will teach the art of worship like nothing you’ve seen before. Swords, sticks, and drumming elements enforce the essence of strength under control. These powerful warriors will perform at the Night of Worship.

Worship Band

Campers are required to be proficient on their instrument for this breakout and will learn to work together with other musicians to create music and lead worship. All types of instruments are welcome, campers are asked to bring theirs with them (with the exception of keyboard and drum set) Vocalists can ask to be a part of this breakout and may be included by permission of the director, depending on experience. (If you like to sing, consider Choir). This group will lead worship at some point during camp.

Young Women Warriors

Girls-only warrior worship. Swords, sticks, flags & drums. It’s going to be epic.
